What are Executive Functioning skills?
These skills refer to a set of mental processes that enable individuals to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and manage daily tasks successfully. EF skills are essential for self-regulation and goal-directed behavior.
It sounds so basic, right? However, for many people (especially those with ADHD), it is not that easy!

Weak Executive Functioning skills impact children, teens, college students, emerging adults, professionals, and adults. They are necessary for all people.

Research proves that those diagnosed with ADHD typically have weaker Executive Functioning skills compared to their peers, so these skills must be strengthened to reach goals and ultimate potential.

What are Executive Functioning skills? These skills refer to a set of mental processes that enable individuals to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and manage daily tasks successfully. EF skills are essential for self-regulation and goal-directed behavior.

1. Emotional Control helps us to manage our thoughts and behaviors in a healthy and productive manner.
2. Flexible Thinking is being able to think about new or different ideas and pivoting when needed.
3. Organization means putting things in their proper space so that they can be found quickly and easily when needed.
4. Perseverance is setting a goal and sticking with it until it is completed.
5. Planning is the ability to think ahead to what must be accomplished.
6. Self-Awareness is knowing oneself and being mindful of one’s thoughts and emotions to produce positive behaviors.
7. Self-Control allows one to employ impulse control to focus on what is helpful and necessary and to prioritize what is important.
8. Staying Focused is paying attention to a task and avoiding distractions.
9. Task Initiation is the ability to start a task (including one that is not preferred) or to stop a task and start another one.
10. Time Management is necessary to meet time limits or deadlines and includes estimating how long a task will take to complete.
11. Working Memory helps one keep new information active so it can be used to focus, organize thoughts, and problem solve.
